HC Deb 30 January 1961 vol 633 cc73-4W
63. Mr. Tapsell

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that there were no prior discussions between management and unions when a four-day working week was recently introduced at the three Nottingham factories of Raleigh Industries; and whether he will confer with employers and industrial organisations regarding the desirability of consultation with employees' representatives at local level before decisions are announced affecting the living standards of workers and their families.

Mr. Hare:

I am informed that the management decided on 16th January to introduce a four-day working week with effect from 27th January and that it informed the unions of this decision on the day it was taken.

The subject of joint consultation is at present being considered by my National Joint Advisory Council.
