§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe statistics do not distinguish between persons who elect for trial and those who are otherwise committed, and no figures are available for 1960. In 1959, 481 persons, of whom 204 were acquitted, were dealt with at quarter sessions for the offence of driving when under the influence of drink or a drug. These figures do not include persons who were originally charged with that offence but dealt with for some other offence, nor those who were dealt with at the same time for a more serious offence (unless they were acquitted of that offence).
