HC Deb 21 February 1961 vol 635 c48W
Mr. Brewis

asked the Secretary of State for War how many men Mr. H. G. Pounds estimated that he would employ at Cairnryan Port, Wigtownshire, if his offer for the port were accepted; and what steps were taken by his Department to check this estimate.

Mr. Profumo

I regret that I cannot publish details which were given in confidence; but the War Office consulted other Government Departments, which had specialised knowledge of industry, commerce and employment in the area, and I can assure my hon. Friend that what was ascertained at that time about Mr. Pounds' proposed use of the port held out the best promise for the economy of the area and the employment of labour.
