HC Deb 17 February 1961 vol 634 c177W
Sir A. Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in which counties the sheep-dipping regulations made under the Diseases of Animals Acts have been modified to allow the use of the spray-race instead of the dip bath; and what comparative tests of the two methods have been made by his Department.

Mr. Soanes:

Regulations made by local authorities under the Sheep Scab Orders usually provide for exemption from dipping in special circumstances, and I understand that Herefordshire County Council have in practice given exemptions for sprayed sheep. My Department has carried out no comparative tests of spraying and dipping, but work has been done in this field here and abroad, and I am advised that spraying could not be relied upon to control sheep scab if it reappeared in this country.
