asked the President of the Board of Trade what financial assistance has been given for the improvement of basic services under the Local Employment Act, 1960, in the case of Sunderland.

Mr. N. Macpherson:

My right hon. Friend is not responsible for the exercise of the powers conferred by the Act for the improvement of basic services in development districts. I understand that as yet no financial assistance under the Act has been given by any of the Departments concerned.
