HC Deb 14 February 1961 vol 634 c123W
54. Mr. McCann

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that some firms are hampered in their efforts to extend exports by the call up of key personnel; what action he is taking to assist them; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. N. Macpherson:

My right hon. Friend is aware that some firms have found it difficult to replace men who were called up for National Service. The needs of the Armed Forces have to be met while manpower is being built up for voluntary recruitment, and as the call-up has now ended any difficulties that there may be will not last much longer.
