HC Deb 05 December 1961 vol 650 cc133-4W
Mr. Pentland

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science what official, or officially supported, research is being conducted, in association with industry, into the uses for pulverised fly ash produced by coal-fired power stations.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

The Building Research Station of the Department of between 1961 and 1965 is almost entirely determined by the present capacity of institutions providing higher education in these fields. Estimates of output have been made in the recent report on the Long-term Demand for Scientific Manpower (Cmnd. 1490, Table 14) and I will, with permission, circulate the relevant figures with the official report.

Following is the information:

Scientific and Industrial Research is investigating the manufacture from pulverised fuel ash of a lightweight aggregate for concrete. This work is supported financially by the Central Electricity Generating Board and the results are being used by industry.
