HC Deb 05 December 1961 vol 650 c133W
Mr. Russell

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science what progress is being made with research into the prevention and cure of the common cold.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

Following the successful isolation and growth of certain common cold viruses by the Common Cold Research Unit, which is supported by the Medical Research Council and the Ministry of Health, the possibility of producing a vaccine is being investigated and trials are planned on the therapeutic value of the antiviral agent interferon.
