§ Mr. C. Ian Orr-EwingThe damage was confined to a light aluminium casing designed for use by the crew as a gangway and had no effect on H.M.S. "Finwhale's" operational efficiency. The circumstances were exceptional in that the "Finwhale" would normally have submerged in the heavy weather conditions encountered but, on this occasion, 43W she had to proceed on the surface at speed to meet the requirements of the exercise in which she was taking part.
