HC Deb 24 April 1961 vol 639 c4W
40. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Health, in view of the fact that Chepstow is an unsuitable site for a plastic surgery unit serving South Wales, whether he will direct the Welsh Regional Hospital Board to issue a public statement on the reasons for the delay in transferring the present unit to Cardiff.

Miss Pitt

No. I would refer the hon. Member to my answer to his Question on the 17th April.

Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of health if he will state the date on which he anticipates the new University Hospital, Cardiff, will release enough space for the Cardiff Royal Infirmary to absorb the plastic surgery unit now at Chepstow; and whether he will make a statement on the emergency steps he is taking for the treatment of plastic surgery cases in South Wales during the years that will intervene.

Miss Pitt

It is not yet possible to forecast the date. Meanwhile, patients will continue to receive specialist treatment at Chepstow, with emergency and supporting treatment in local general hospitals. My right hon. Friend does not consider that any special interim measure is called for.
