HC Deb 24 April 1961 vol 639 cc7-8W
Sir B. Janner

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that because of the lack of institutional treatment for bedridden and sick old people with possibly only a few months to live, the relatives and friends looking after them both day and night are bearing an unfair burden with detrimental effect on their health; and whether he will take immediate steps to increase such institutional treatment so that such old people receive full medical attention during the last months of their lives and their relatives are free from anxiety and danger to their own health.

Regional hospital boards know of this need and will be planning to improve their facilities for meeting it. Where cases are nursed at home, local authorities can and do provide supporting services.
