HC Deb 17 April 1961 vol 638 c58W
44. Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he proposes to take to protect the rights of the British fishing fleet, in view of renewed Icelandic claims to exercise jurisdiction up to the Continental Shelf.

Mr. Soames

The Icelandic claim is not new. Under the recent fisheries Agreement the Icelandic Government are bound to give Her Majesty's Government six months' notice of any proposed extension of Iceland's fishery jurisdiction and any dispute in relation to such an extension is to be referred at the request of either party to the International Court of Justice.
