HC Deb 17 April 1961 vol 638 cc58-9W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is aware of the recent diminution in the supply of fish to British consumers resulting from the recent agreement between Great Britain and Iceland about fishing limits and territorial waters; and if he will state his plans for maintaining fish supplies for British consumers.

Mr. Soames

The effect of the Agreement on supplies will depend on the extent to which our trawlers can find catches in other waters and on imports and foreign landings. I am discussing with the industry the extent to which the Government can assist in experimental work to help the industry to find other supplies of fish.
