HC Deb 14 November 1960 vol 630 c4W
57. Sir M. Stoddart-Scott

asked the Minister of Health what would be the estimated extra cost to the National Health Service if drugs and dressings, which are now available free to British subjects and foreigners who attend doctors in the National Health Service, were made available to all British subjects whether they attend a National Health Service doctor or their own private practitioner.

Mr. Powell

On a rough estimate, the extra annual cost of providing drugs and dressings on National Health Service terms for residents in Britain not now registered with a National Health Service doctor might be between £2 million and £3 million.
