§ 83. Mr. G. M. Thomsonasked the Minister of Labour if he will make a statement on the latest unemployment situation in Dundee, with particular reference to the jute industry and the refrigerator industry.
§ Mr. HareOn 10th October, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 2,809 workers registered as unemployed in Dundee, and in the Dundee and Broughty Ferry area as a whole 2,908, representing a percentage rate of 3.3. There is a small amount of redundancy and short time working in the jute industry in Dundee which may increase. I am informed that a refrigerator firm in Dundee will also be introducing short time working in the near future.
