HC Deb 09 May 1960 vol 623 c1W
3. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Health to what extent the shortage of dentists for dealing with mental defectives in the Bristol area is due to the inadequate sessional rates being paid for the work; and if he will consult with the appropriate authorities, including representative dental organisations, with a view to improving the situation.

Miss Pitt

I do not think it is possible to say how far the difficulty is due to any one particular cause. As the hon. Member knows, the Royal Commission, whose recommendations about the pay of dentists are under discussion between the Government and representatives of the profession has proposed increased rates for dentists working in hospitals.
