HC Deb 09 May 1960 vol 623 c6W
58. Mr. Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what negotiations he has had with the Icelandic authorities since the breakdown of the Geneva Conference with regard to the fishing by British trawlers in traditional fishing grounds off the coast of Iceland.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

No negotiations have taken place since the Conference. We hope that the improved atmosphere resulting from the Icelandic Government's welcome decision to waive past charges against our trawlers will help to bring about a settlement of the dispute. We have been in touch with the Icelandic Government, but I can make no further statement at the moment.
