HC Deb 02 May 1960 vol 622 c29W
21. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Health the number of gynaecology cases in Cardiff awaiting admission to hospital; and what steps are being taken to reduce the waiting period for these people.

Miss Pitt

There were 609 gynaecological patients awaiting admission to Cardiff hospitals on 25th April, 1960, compared with 2,586 on 31st December, 1954. Urgent cases are admitted immediately and the average waiting time for others is up to four weeks for major operations and up to three months for minor. The additional facilities provided in this specialty since 1955 have succeeded in reducing waiting time considerably and no further special action seems called for at present.
