BrookeOut of the 1,469 housing authorities in England and Wales, the numbers who made use of direct labour on some or all of their house construction were 178 in 1950, 167 in 1953, 156 in 1956, and 139 in 1959. I have no information as to the numbers who made use of it on care and maintenance.
