HC Deb 29 June 1960 vol 625 cc124-5W
Captain Kerby

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty whether he is satisfied that the novel type of propulsion machinery to be fitted in the "County" class destroyers and "Ashanti" class frigates will not unduly delay the completion of these vessels; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

Yes. Major components of the main machinery are already on board the guided missile destroyer H.M.S. "Devonshire", first of the "County" class, and completion of this installation is proceeding in parallel with other fitting-out work. All main machinery is on board H.M.S. "Ashanti", first of the "Tribal" class frigates, and we hope to carry out running trials later this year.
