HC Deb 29 June 1960 vol 625 c130W
63. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that sirens are prohibited on ambulances in favour of the old bell warning system, while fire engines and salvage vehicles can use them, and that in a test made the sirens proved satisfactory by taking minutes off the journey of the ambulances; and if he will take steps to enable ambulances to use sirens.

Mr. Marples

The whole question of audible and flashing light warning systems for priority vehicles, including the use of sirens by ambulances, is at present under review.
