HC Deb 27 June 1960 vol 625 c89W
69. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is aware that the producers of lettuces and potatoes are receiving too little for their produce and that the housewife is paying too much for them; and if he will hold an inquiry to ascertain the reasons for the disproportion between the two prices.

Mr. Hare

A Committee under Lord Runciman carried out a full inquiry into the distribution of horticultural produce as recently as 1956. The results did not bear out the hon. Member's assumptions, and I have no reason to suppose that the results of a further inquiry would be any different.
