HC Deb 14 July 1960 vol 626 cc122-3W
61. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is aware that the world's largest and most up-to-date distant water freeze trawler is being built in Aberdeen to voyage further and longer and to freeze its catch at sea; and if he will make a statement on the extent of the contribution which more vessels of this type can, under the statutory provisions available, make to Great Britain's fishing fleets.

Mr. Hare

The building of this and other trawlers with freezing equipment is certainly an important development in the industry, but until this type of vessel has been in operation it is too early for me to define the contribution it will make to our fishing fleet.
