HC Deb 26 January 1960 vol 616 cc22-3W
Mr. Mathew

asked the Minister of Transport if he will give directions that pedestrian crossings be provided at the intersection of Station Road and Park-field Road, Topsham, and at the bottom of Mayorfield Road and Fore Street in Topsham, so that children and other pedestrians may cross these roads in safety where the traffic is particularly heavy.

Mr. Marples

I have had no request from the Devon County Council for pedestrian crossings at these sites, but 1 am informed that last year the Council consulted the police who said that there was no need for crossings.

The best provision for children who have to cross busy roads in numbers is a school crossing patrol or some other form of adult protection.
