HC Deb 09 February 1960 vol 617 cc28-9W
Mr. Boyden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that, as a result of tests conducted by the Consumer Advisory Council, 15 out of 22 makes of radiant oil heaters were found to be liable to cause fires in a strong draught; and whether he will ask these manufacturers of oil heaters to draw attention to this danger in their instruction cards and publicity.

Mr. Maudling

I have been asked to reply.

I am sure that each manufacturer concerned will consider what action in respect of his product might be appropriate, but I think it better to await the results of the investigation currently being conducted by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research before considering intervention.
