Mr. Godber

Since the Answer contains a number of figures I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the information requested:

AMOUNTS PLEDGED FOR 1961 TO THE VOLUNTARY FUNDS OF THE UNITED NATIONS (AS AT 20TH OCTOBER. 1960)
$
Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance 88,872,441
United Nations Special Fund

No pledging conference has been held in respect of the United Nations Children's Fund; the total of governmental contributions for 1960, as at 30th November, was $20,916,036.

Details of pledges to the United Nations voluntary fund for budgetary aid to the Congo were given in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Chigwell (Mr, Biggs-Davison) on 12th December. In addition to the $3 million which Her Majesty's Government have already contributed, they have undertaken to produce a further sum of not less than $2 million in the early spring, provided that a further examination of the requirements will show that further contributions would be appropriate and that other countries are doing their share.
