HC Deb 21 December 1960 vol 632 cc173-4W
72. Sir A. Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food which counties have now approved the system of spraying sheep instead of the annual dipping formerly required universally to eliminate sheep scab; and if he will give advice about the desirability of this more economical practice to the Disease of Animals Committees of all county councils.

Mr. Soames

The Sheep Scab Order enables local authorities to make regulations requiring periodical dipping of sheep in their areas. It is within the discretion of the authorities whether they make such regulations or not. The Order gives no power to approve spraying as an alternative, and I could not recommend spraying as a method of control of sheep scab under field conditions in this country.
