HC Deb 21 December 1960 vol 632 c191W
Mr. Thornton

asked the President of the Board of Trade what percentage of the increase of grey cotton cloth imports from non-Commonwealth sources in 1959, as compared with 1958, were for re-export.

Mr. Maudling

Total imports of grey cotton cloth, and the amounts of these imports destined for re-export after processing, from non-Commonwealth sources in 1958 and 1959 were as follows:

1958 1959
Mn. Sq. Yds. £m. Mn. Sq. Yds. £m.
Total Imports 91 5.2 103 5.2
Destined for re-export after processing 65.5 3.7 91 4.6

It is not possible to indicate what percentage of the increase in those goods destined for re-export after processing came from the increase in imports.
