asked the Lord Privy Seal, in view of the further deterioration of the situation in Laos, if he will approach the Governments which were represented at the Geneva Conference on South-East Asia concerning the advisability of recalling the conference.

During the last three months, Her Majesty's Government's efforts have been devoted to trying to secure agreement between the various Laotian factions which would put an end to the fighting and produce a neutral and independent Laos. Before taking any international action as Co-Chairman of the Geneva Conference, I should wish to be certain that there was no hope of the Laotians settling the problems on their own
