HC Deb 14 December 1960 vol 632 c58W
96. Mr. Wall

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty what studies are being made regarding the replacement of exist-L.C.T. and L.S.T. by an assault ship capable of operating with a commando carrier; and when such a ship will be laid down.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

Design studies for successors to the existing Amphibious Warfare Squadron are in hand. On the question of timing, as I told my hon. Friend in reply to a Question on 24th February last, a replacement programme will be started before the existing L.S.T.'s and L.C.T's come to the end of their hull life.
