HC Deb 14 April 1960 vol 621 c157W
Dr. King

asked the Minister of Education how many of the pupils who left school in the year ended July, 1959, had remained after they had reached school-leaving age for one term, two terms, and three or more terms, respectively.

Sir D. Eccles

Of the 554,400 children who left maintained schools in the year ended July, 1959, about 137,000 had remained at school for three or more terms after reaching the statutory leaving age. I cannot say how many had stayed on for one or two terms.
