HC Deb 14 April 1960 vol 621 c146W
Commander Kerans

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cars of the Metropolitan Police Force are fitted with safety belts.

Mr. R. A. Butler

None. Tests of a number of types of equipment were carried out in 1957 and 1958, but the Commissioner of Police eventually came to the conclusion that the fitting of safety belts was not necessary.
