HC Deb 14 April 1960 vol 621 c177W
Mr. Robert Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress has been made in reaching a settlement regarding compensation for the damage and loss to British lives and property in Bagdad on 14th July, 1958.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

The Iraq Government have recently paid to Her Majesty's Government the sum of £120,000 as compensation.

This money has been paid to the Exchequer; Parliament will be asked in due course to vote the money required to meet individual claims, by means of a Supplementary Estimate to the Foreign Service Vote. In the meantime, an allowance is being obtained from the Civil Contingencies Fund.
