HC Deb 14 April 1960 vol 621 c167W
Commander Pursey

asked the Minister of Transport whether the excessive rust on the underpart of Fullbridge, Maldon, Essex, was caused by salt or fresh water; and when the underpart was last scraped and painted.

Mr. Marples

The Essex County Council tells me that the rust has been caused by atmospheric conditions and not by the river water.

I am also told that the old bridge, which was closed to vehicular traffic during the war and replaced by a temporary bridge, has not been scraped and painted since 1937.
