asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will make available, in advance of the Second Reading of the Finance Bill, estimates of the proposed capital expenditure on the nationalised industries during the next few years on the basis of present policies and prices.

The Electricity Council, the two Scottish Electricity Boards, the National Coal Board and the Gas Council have all published brochures in recent months in explanation of their plans, and this information has been made known to Parliament in debates on the legislation which has been needed in order to extend the borrowing powers of these bodies. The estimated amounts of capital expenditure and of Exchequer borrowing needed to help finance it are as follows:
