asked the Minister of Aviation what pre-operational development expenditure is being borne by the British Overseas Airways Corporation and the British European Airways Corporation on the introduction into service of new British aircraft types; and for what aircraft types this expenditure is being incurred.

Pre-operational and development expenditure, including crew training and route proving flights, by B.O.A.C. and B.E.A. during the first half of the present financial year amounted to about £835,000. The aircraft types concerned are the Comet 4 and the Vanguard.
