HC Deb 24 November 1959 vol 614 c33W
Lord Balniel

asked the Minister of Aviation (1) what contribution is being made by the Government to individual private companies for the development of aero-engines;

(2) what contribution is being made by the Government to individual private companies for the development of aircraft frames.

Mr. Sandys

The cost of developing airframes and aero-engines for military aircraft is usually borne by the Government. The extent of Government assistance towards the cost of developing airframes and engines for civil aircraft, or of a military type with obvious civil applications, varies from case to case. It would be contrary to established practice to publish details of Government contracts with individual companies.
