HC Deb 24 November 1959 vol 614 c20W
60. Sir T. Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects the new by-pass road to avoid the congestion of traffic in Prestwick and Ayr to be completed; and if he is satisfied with the progress which has already been made.

Mr. Maclay

Work on the first stage of the Ayr-Prestwick by-pass started at the beginning of November and the contract period is 21 months. The progress of this scheme has been most satisfactory, and I am grateful to Ayr County Council for the exceptional speed and accuracy with which, as my agents, they carried out the preparatory works.
