HC Deb 18 November 1959 vol 613 c140W
86. Mr. Callaghan

asked the Minister of Transport if he will arrange for a public inquiry to be held before the East and West Docks and the Roath Basin entrance to the Cardiff Docks are closed for use, in view of the adverse effects on local ship repairing firms.

Mr. Marples

The British Transport Commission will consult all the interests concerned before they reach any decision about a possible closure of the East and West Bute Docks and Roath Basin entrance. Thereafter, a report will be made by the Commission to the Transport Users Consultative Committee, who will in turn make a recommendation to me on what action should be taken. Until I receive their recommendation it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the merits of the case. I have informed the Mountstuart Dry Docks Ltd. of the action to be taken by the Commission.
