HC Deb 17 November 1959 vol 613 cc104-5W
Mr. C. Hughes

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, in view of the need which has been publicly expressed, details of which have been sent to the Prime Minister by the hon. Member for Anglesey, for a National Trust or Council for the improvement of the Arts in Wales, what consideration he has given to the establishment of such a project; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. H. Brooke

There is much I would like to see done in developing the Arts in Wales. I have read these particular proposals carefully. Their starling point is that the county councils should surrender some £1,400,000 of their Welsh Church Funds to form the nucleus of a National Trust for the Arts in Wales. I do not know whether the county councils would feel disposed to do this. I think time must be given for opinion to crystallise.
