HC Deb 17 November 1959 vol 613 c99W
39 and 40. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs (1) what special action he proposes to take to subsidise the provision of adequate houses for the miners who are resident in the City of Stoke-on-Trent, and for the increased number of miners who are to be employed within the City during the next five years;

(2) if he will make special arrangements with the City of Stoke-on-Trent to assist the construction of large numbers of houses in the Trent-ham, Newstead, and Meir area, in view of the number on the housing list, the effects of subsidence and the increased numbers to be employed during the next five years.

Mr. H. Brooke

It rests with the local authority in the first instance to apply for whatever assistance it thinks would be appropriate under the existing subsidy provisions. I will consider any application it may make.
