HC Deb 17 November 1959 vol 613 cc119-20W
Mr. N. Pannell

asked the President of the Board of Trade what progress has been made in connection with reorganisation schemes for the finishing section of the cotton industry.

Mr. Maudling

Under the Cotton Industry Act the responsibility for preparing reorganisation schemes rests with the Cotton Board, in consultation with the section of the industry concerned. The Cotton Board informs me that it is anxious to proceed with the examination of a scheme or schemes for the finishing sections as quickly as possible, but it is still waiting for the necessary information from some firms. As soon as this information is available and has been analysed, further discussions about the desirability and feasibility of a scheme will take place with the representative of the finishers.
