HC Deb 10 November 1959 vol 613 cc25-6W
49. Mr. Mellish

asked the Prime Minister if he will issue new directions to the Minister responsible for the nationalised industries to the effect that they are no longer as a matter of policy to refuse to answer Questions on day-to-day administration or on matters concerning which they have power under the existing Acts to obtain information from the industries concerned.

The Prime Minister

My right hon. Friend the Leader of the House proposes to have discussions about the general question of the relationship between the nationalised industries and Parliament with those concerned and through the usual channels. Until these consultations have been completed, I think it would be a mistake to alter the present arrangements.
