72. Mr. Willey

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the proposed closure of the No. 1 Factory of Bristol Siddeley Engines, Limited, on the Pallion Trading Estate, Sunderland.

Mr. Maudling

Bristol Siddeley Engines, Limited, has announced its intention of concentrating its production at Pallion into three out of the four factories it at present leases from the Board of Trade. The factory unit which it expects to vacate is some 66,000 sq. ft. and will become available for re-allocation after 1st May, 1960. We shall do our utmost to find a new occupant for the factory as soon as possible.
