HC Deb 04 November 1959 vol 612 c45W
42. Mr. Gough

asked the Minister of Transport how many fatal accidents have occurred within the Crawley area during the past three months; and what action is being taken to avoid similar recurrences in the future.

Mr. Hay

During the three months from July to September, 1959, two persons died as a result of road accidents in the Crawley area; on 17th October a child who darted across the trunk road without looking was killed. Only continuous road safety education can help to prevent tragedies of this kind. I am glad to be able to acknowledge the active co-operation of the local Road Safety Committee in Crawley and the police in this vital task.
