§ Mr. H. BrookeAbout 750,000 rented houses were de-controlled in England and Wales on 6th July, 1957, nearly 200,000 of these being in London. That left about 4¼ million under control, including 600,000 in London. There are no figures of the number becoming de-controlled each year on vacant possession, though pre-war experience suggests that this might be of the order of 3 per cent. per annum, which would now mean de-control of about 125,000 houses annually. I cannot split this figure, which is itself no more than an estimate, between London and the Provinces.
