Mr. Patrick Maitlandasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what financial help he will give to encourage new industries to settle at Douglas and Douglas, West, in the county of Lanark, in view of the closure of the colliery and the number of houses which are now standing empty which are available for incoming workers.
§ Mr. ErrollAs neither Douglas nor Douglas, West, are in a locality in the county of Lanark for which assistance may be available under the Distribution of Industry (Industrial Finance) Act, 1958, there is no assistance which the Treasury can give to encourage new industry to settle there.
