HC Deb 13 May 1959 vol 605 cc141-2W
Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he is aware of the abnormal traffic congestion caused by the improvement scheme on the North Circular Road at its junction with Manor Road, N.W.10; how many men are employed on this work and how long it is scheduled to take; what is the extra cost of having the traffic regulated by police officers; and what would be the difference in cost if the work could be completed much more quickly.

Mr. Watkinson

I assume my hon. Friend is referring to the scheme on the North Circular Road at its junction with the Harrow Road. Every effort is being made to reduce inconvenience while work is in progress and no charge is made by the police for regulating traffic. Seventeen men are employed on the scheme, which should be completed by the end of August. The adoption of night and weekend working might increase the cost by as much as 17 per cent.
