54. Mr. John Hall

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation how many vehicle licences and how many driving licences were issued by local authorities during the last financial year; and what was the total sum paid to local authorities to reimburse them for the cost of issuing licences.

Mr. Nugent

The number of vehicle licences issued by local authorities during the financial year ended 31st March, 1959, was 11,620.811 and the number of driving licences (substantive and provisional) was 9,811,894.

The total sum paid to local authorities during the financial year in reimbursement for the cost of issuing licences was £3 050,746.
