§ 56. Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Labour if he will make a statement comparing the difficulties of providing employment for juveniles as between new towns and other localities, at the present time, a year ago, and five years ago; and what further action is being taken in respect of this problem.
§ Mr. WoodWith certain exceptions, the new towns have been, and still are, more favourably placed than other areas in the provision of employment for young people. This is partly because their proportion of young workers to adults is much less than the national average, and partly because many of these towns are in areas of the country where the general employment situation is good. The "bulge" in the new towns does not reach its peak until the mid-1960's or even later. All concerned including the Development Corporations are well aware of the longterm problems involved.
